Onder aanvoering van de Stichting Bevrijding Brabantse Wal wordt in het najaar invulling gegeven aan de 82e herdenking van de bevrijding van stad en streek.

Canadese herdenking

U bent van harte welkom bij de internationale Canadese herdenking in Bergen op Zoom op zondag 25 oktober a.s. Deze herdenking wordt georganiseerd in nauwe samenwerking met de Canadese ambassade en vindt plaats op de Canadese Oorlogsbegraafplaats aan de Ruytershoveweg in Bergen op Zoom.

De dag start om 09.00 uur in de Sint-Gertrudiskerk met een oecumenische viering.  Pastoor Paul Verbeek en dominee Ellen van Sluijs gaan voor in deze dienst.
De viering houdt er rekening mee dat alle aanwezigen in de kerk tijdig op de Canadese Begraafplaats kunnen zijn.

De officiële herdenking op het Canadees ereveld start om 11.00 uur. De ceremonie is openbaar toegankelijk. Belangstellenden dienen om uiterlijk 10.45 uur aanwezig te zijn.

Zuidwest TV verzorgt een live uitzending van de ceremonie.

R.S.V.P.

Wanneer u een persoonlijke uitnodiging ontvangen heeft, R.S.V.P. vóór 16 oktober 2026 naar kabinet@bergenopzoom.nl o.v.v. Canadays. We werken met een gedeeltelijke placering voor degenen die zich hebben aangemeld. We rekenen erop dat de placering wordt gerespecteerd.

Receptie

Aansluitend aan de herdenking is voor een selecte groep genodigden een receptie voorzien. Deze receptie is niet openbaar toegankelijk. Toegang is op vertoon van een toegangsbewijs, deze worden medio oktober per mail verzonden. De uitnodigingen voor deze receptie zijn persoonlijk en niet overdraagbaar. De openbare receptie in de Hofzaal van het Markiezenhof vindt dit jaar niet plaats. 

Krans

U heeft de mogelijkheid een krans te leggen. Wij vragen u uw interesse vóór 16 oktober door te geven via kabinet@bergenopzoom.nl. Wanneer u aangegeven heeft een krans te leggen, dan sturen we u enkele dagen voor de herdenking een overzicht met de volgorde van de kransleggers.

Parkeren

Aan de Ruytershoveweg is een zeer beperkt aantal parkeerplaatsen beschikbaar. We dringen er dan  ook op aan om met de fiets te komen.

International Canadian Commemoration

You are cordially invited to attend the International Canadian Commemoration in Bergen op Zoom on Sunday, 25 October 2026.

This commemoration is organized in close cooperation with the Embassy of Canada and will take place at the Canadian War Cemetery on Ruytershoveweg in Bergen op Zoom.

The day will commence at 9:00 a.m. with an ecumenical service in St. Gertrude's Church, led by Father Paul Verbeek and Reverend Ellen van Sluijs.

The timing of the service has been arranged to allow all attendees to arrive at the Canadian War Cemetery well in advance of the official ceremony.

The official commemoration ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Canadian War Cemetery. The ceremony is open to the public. Guests are kindly requested to be seated no later than 10:45 a.m.

Local television network ZuidWest TV will broadcast the ceremony live.

Guests are kindly requested to arrive no later than 10:45 a.m.

If you have received a personal invitation, please confirm your attendance by 16 October 2026 by emailing kabinet@bergenopzoom.nl and stating "Canadays" in the subject line.

Reserved seating will be available for registered guests. We kindly request that the seating arrangements be respected.

Reception

Following the commemoration, a reception will be held for a select group of invited guests. This reception is not open to the public.

Admission is by invitation only and upon presentation of a valid admission pass. Passes will be distributed by email in mid-October.

Please note that invitations to this reception are personal and non-transferable.

The public reception traditionally held in the Hofzaal of the Markiezenhof will not take place this year.

Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Guests wishing to lay a wreath during the ceremony are kindly requested to notify us of their intention by 16 October 2026 via kabinet@bergenopzoom.nl.

A few days prior to the commemoration, participants will receive a schedule indicating the order of the wreath-laying ceremony.

Parking

Parking facilities along Ruytershoveweg are extremely limited. Attendees are therefore strongly encouraged to travel by bicycle whenever possible.
